As Namibia's offshore energy sector continues to evolve, developing local talent is becoming just as important as developing the technologies that will shape its future. Building a skilled workforce today will help ensure the country's long-term success tomorrow.

Building on the success of last year's inaugural program, TechnipFMC has launched the second edition of its Subsea Engineering Program in partnership with the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). The initiative reflects the company's long-term commitment to developing local capabilities and supporting Namibia's growing energy industry through meaningful local content initiatives.

Designed for engineering students from a range of disciplines, including Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Mining, and Metallurgical Engineering, the program offers participants a practical introduction to the subsea industry and the delivery of offshore energy projects.

This year's curriculum has been expanded to provide an even broader industry perspective, introducing a dedicated module on offshore safety alongside key subsea disciplines such as Subsea Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF), Subsea Production Systems (SPS), Services & Life of Field, and Project Management. By integrating safety into the learning journey, the program reflects one of the industry's most fundamental principles: delivering projects safely is inseparable from delivering them successfully.

Over five expert-led modules, delivered through a combination of in-person and virtual sessions, TechnipFMC experts will share real-world experience and demonstrate how multidisciplinary teams collaborate to design, execute, and operate complex subsea developments.

The program culminates in a collaborative project challenge that places safety at the heart of a simulated subsea development. Guided by TechnipFMC experts, students apply their newly acquired knowledge to realistic engineering scenarios, gaining first-hand insight into how technical excellence and a strong safety culture go hand in hand throughout the lifecycle of an offshore project.

Beyond technical learning, the initiative aims to strengthen the connection between academia and industry, helping students better understand the skills, collaboration, and safety mindset required to pursue careers in the offshore energy sector.
