Technip has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil, on behalf of the Marine Well Containment Company (MWCC), to design an emergency response system that will be available to contain oil in the event of a potential future underwater well incident in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.
The contract covers front-end engineering design (FEED) of the subsea components (equipments, umbilicals, risers and flowlines) of the Marine Well Containment System. This system will be designed such that it could be mobilized within 24 hours after an incident and fully deployed within weeks.
Technip’s operating center in Houston, Texas will execute this contract, which is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2011.
ExxonMobil is leading the engineering, procurement and construction of the system on behalf of its co-venturer partners Chevron, Shell and ConocoPhillips.
