Technip awarded contract by Total Petrochemicals for a demonstration MTO unit in Belgium

January 10, 2006

Paris, January 10, 2006

Technip has been awarded by Total Petrochemicals a turnkey contract for the construction of a demonstration unit at the petrochemicals complex at Feluy (Belgium). This unit will make use of the combination of the Methanol-to-Olefins (MTO) process developed by UOP/HYDRO and the Olefin* Cracking process (OCP) developed by Total Petrochemicals/UOP.

Through this project, Total Petrochemicals will demonstrate the industrial feasibility of a production of light olefins and more specifically of propylene from methanol that can be obtained directly from coal or gas. This project falls within the framework of a €40 million global investment on the site.

Technip’s operations and engineering centers in Antwerp (Belgium) and in Lyon (France) will participate in the design and construction of this unit.

This unit will have a fully modular design in order to shorten the construction delay and allow for a start up in 2007.

* Olefins: family of molecules including in particular ethylene and propylene, which constitutes the raw material allowing for the manufacture of many plastics.
