Developing offshore wind power and hydrogen generation technology

TechnipFMC is a market leader for hydrogen generation technology through steam reforming of fossil fuels. With this deep experience, we are exploring green hydrogen produced from wind or solar as a viable alternative energy carrier in a decarbonized society. With clients and partners, we are working to offer a commercially viable, reliable and safe energy system combining offshore wind power and hydrogen generation. In this system, hydrogen is used for high capacity energy storage, intermittency management, and to feed into the grid for consumption.  

Offering new applications of green hydrogen onshore

We leverage our historical “conventional” hydrogen technology track record for new applications of green hydrogen onshore, such as the production of sustainable biofuels. Our key references include 19 plants integrating electrolysis (mainly chlorination), HDF SARA Cleargen Project and Woodside Integrated hydrogen production plant.

Stable, emission-free solution for the maritime sector and remote islands

We offer stable power to off-grid consumers like offshore platforms and remote islands along with offshore production of electrical power and hydrogen to on-grid consumers. Surplus wind power feeds into electrolysis of purified and desalinated seawater to produce hydrogen. The high capacity hydrogen is stored using an export pipeline or local subsea storage unit, and Hydrogen can be re-electrified in fuel cells or blended with natural gas to fuel existing gas turbines.
